• I think one of my favourite things is when people threaten to unfollow me for expressing a negative opinion on something like a movie or band or book that they like
  • This seems to happen a lot with The Devil Wears Prada fans who don’t take too kindly to how boring and predictable I find that band
  • See the thing is I know for a fact that while I’m a positive person generally speaking and I’m enthusiastic about a lot off stuff, I criticize and make fun of lots of shit on here
  • The reasoning is they’re just things, non-essentials to one’s character and so I feel like ripping on them is pretty harmless so long as I can make the distinction that you are not a terrible person for liking that thing
  • For example Homestuck
  • I mean it really failed to keep my interest when I gave it a shot and a lot of the fandom does really annoying things but outside of good-natured joking around, I won’t broadly generalize anyone for liking it and you’re welcome to continue being very enthusiastic about it
  • But if you’re the sort of person who has sat by and watched me harmlessly make fun of things people like and finally feel uncomfortable the moment it crosses into territory you’re fond of
  • Well, then you don’t actually believe in the subjectivity of opinions at all, do you
  • Which doesn’t make you a bad person at all, it really doesn’t
  • But just save us both the trouble and own up to that double standard and I’ll continue pointing out that I feel that bland metalcore with unsubtle keyboard riffs is still bland metalcore in the same sense that a turd with sprinkles is still a turd
